Early Morning Preparations
The day starts before sunrise at 6:00 AM when I arrive at Barnett Heating & Cooling’s headquarters. After checking my service schedule and loading up my truck with essential parts and tools, I grab my morning coffee and head out to my first call in Richmond.
Morning Service Calls
Winter mornings in Kentucky can be brutal, which is why our first call is typically a heating system emergency from the previous night. Today’s first stop involves a furnace that stopped working for an elderly couple. These situations remind me why I love this job – helping people stay warm and comfortable in their homes.
Midday Maintenance
By midday, I’m in Berea performing scheduled maintenance checks. Preventive maintenance is crucial for:
• Extending system lifespan
• Improving energy efficiency
• Preventing unexpected breakdowns
• Ensuring safe operation
Afternoon Consultations
The afternoon takes me to Lancaster for a furnace replacement consultation. I carefully inspect the existing system and discuss options with the homeowner, explaining the benefits of modern, energy-efficient units.
End of Day
Before heading back to base, I make a final stop in Paint Lick for a quick heating repair. These late afternoon calls often determine whether a family will have heat for the night, so we always make time for them.
No two days are exactly alike in this line of work, but each one brings the satisfaction of helping our Central Kentucky neighbors stay comfortable in their homes.
After Hours
Back at the shop, I complete my service reports and prepare for tomorrow’s schedule. While the day may be done for me, our team remains on call 24/7 for emergency heating services throughout the region.
